Health Care Reform From One Person's Perspective

What This Blog Is About

Posted by Alan on January 2, 2007

Welcome to the Alan Katz Health Insurance Blog. My goal here is simply to provide a place to talk about what’s going on with health insurance and Insurance Neighborhood. And maybe a few other topics that appeal to me.

The comments I’ll be posting here reflect my own perspective and opinions, so please don’t blame my current or former companies or colleagues. If you post a comment, I’m assuming they’ll  reflect your perspective and opinions, so I’ll do my best not to blame your current or former companies or colleagues.  Hopefully, over time, our combined comments will help make this blog a destination to hear the latest news, rumors and gossip concering health insurance.

Particularly, about California health insurance. And, to put an even finer point on it, Individual and Family health insurance (with a signifcant touch of Small Group thrown in for flavor). No doubt there’ll be comments posted here which go well beyond this relatively narrow scope, but, at least initially, that’s where the focus will be.

So please feel free to participate. Link your blog to this one. Post comments. Tell your friends. That sort of thing. Let’s see what happens.

  1. Alan, I try to read what you have to say every time my RSS tells me you have posted something new. You are one of the few people I have seen who trys to report facts while minimizing editorial comment. I appreciate that. I wish I could do that. Unfortunately, once I get started on a PPACA topic I have a difficult time restraining my emotions.

I did however, notice that some news occurred yesterday that you did not comment on. If you did, I missed it. It was on the state level and not in D.C. so it flew under the political radar. I assume your silence indicates that you did not see it.

Gov. Mitch Daniels sent Sebelius an ultimatum endorsed by 20 other GOP governors threatening not to set up American Health Benefit Exchanges unless 6 changes were made by HHS.

At 2:35 today, my blog for my friends and clients,, focuses on this new development. I am certain you have other sources from which you draw information but I wanted to give you a heads up.

With time, it’s clear “what it’s about” has involved. As noted, it was originally going to be about the health insurance industry in general. Now it’s focused much more narrowly: on health care reform, particularly the debate in California. This doesn’t mean other topics aren’t important. It’s just that the direction health care reform takes in this state and around the country will impact everything else.
